The tube zither Dinh Goong

 * Sample (MP3, 1.9 MB) *

This gourded tube zither is coming from the GioRai people in central Vietnam. The gourd is put against the players belly and waved away to create a kind of overtone resonance. My model has 14 strings tuned in a pentatonic scale (some pitches are doubled).
Tube zithers like this exist allover island Southeast asia, Malaysia  and Vietnam. These tube zithers also remind of the divers African tube zithers of which the Valiha from Madagscar seems to be the most famous.
