Instruments
The Guan Ze

This reed instrument is a Chinese version of the "Duduk" from Armenia (see second picture below). It  is easily recognized by its typical warm and nasal deep sound.

Versions of this instrument travelled up to Mongolia resulting in analogue instruments called "Guan Ze" and "Bili".

This version has 7 finger holes on the front and another hole on the back for the thumb. The reed needs some regular improvement, as it defines tha quality of the sound. This is the reason why many players tend to manufacture their own reeds.

Players use the circular breathing technique and need a strong pressure from the stomache to create the nonstop sound.
